Fungi of the genus Erysiphe, their host plants and distribution in Azerbaijan

Summary

In the present study, more than 200 herbarium specimens of the genus Erysiphe fungi from Azerbaijan were examined, their distribution by host plant species and physical-geographical regions were analyzed. The identification was based on main diagnostic features. As a result, 48 taxa of powdery mildew fungi of the genus Erysiphe were identified in Azerbaijan. Of these, 23 are pathogenic on herbs, 15 on shrubs and 10 on trees. Erysiphe fungi are more common in the south-eastern region of the Greater Caucasus. Among the plant families, representatives of herbs belonging to the Fabaceae, shrubs to Berberidaceae, Celastraceae, Lythraceae, Oleaceae, Rhamnaceae, and trees to the Fagaceae host more fungal taxa.
