Useful features of ornamental plants of Guba and Gusar districts
Summary
The article presents results of the investigation of ornamental plants of economic importance growing in Guba and Gusar districts, the northeastern of Azerbaijan. Based on a survey conducted among the local population, of the identified 133 ornamental species about 36 species belonging to 12 orders, 19 families, 34 genera were found to be useful and these plants are presented in seven groups. Of these: 19 species are used in the folk medicine and 12 species in medicine, 9 species in dyeing, as well as 6 species as melliferous, 3 species as aromatic, 3 species as fodder and 1 species as technical. Some plants (Echinops sphaerocephalus, Eupatorium cannabinum, Erodium cicutarium, Tanacetum parthenifolium, Thymus collinus, Trifolium montanum, Vicia crocea, Viola odorata) can belong to more than one group. Thus, when using ornamental plants for landscaping and decoration, it is very important to take into account their other features, which will ensure a more diverse and effective use of their useful properties.
