Analysis of the species of the subgenus Campanula L., found in the Karabakh and Zangazur flora

Summary

Karabakh and Zangezur, characterized by a variety of climate and landscape and being the southeastern end of the Lesser Caucasus, are rich in vegetation. Analysis of the literature and herbarium specimens collected in this region is an invaluable source for a comprehensive assessment of the damage caused to the flora and ecosystems of Karabakh and Zangezur as a result of the military aggression of Armenia over the past 30 years. This is the purpose of studying the genus Campanula, which is widespread in the northern hemisphere and is of particular importance for the flora of the Caucasus. According to literature data, 110 species of this genus are found in the Caucasus, and 46 in Azerbaijan. A comparison of the history of the study of the genus, its geographical distribution, as well as taxa found in the flora of Karabakh and Zangezur is carried out, and the herbarium data stored in the herbarium fund of the BAK are analyzed. It was found that the subgenus Campanula L., which is the richest of the subgenus in terms of the number of species of the genus, includes 11 sections, of which 18 taxa belonging to 7 sections are found in the flora of Azerbaijan. 11 out of 18 taxa are found in the flora of Karabakh and Zangezur. At the same time, when examining herbarium specimens of the subgenus Campanula in the herbarium fund (BAK) of the Institute of Botany of ANAS, 21 herbarium specimens belonging to 5 species collected in the Karabakh zone were identified.
