Role of quinoa (Сhenopodium quinoa Willd.) in protecting photosystem II (PS II) from oxidative stress

Summary

A comparative analysis of the protective properties of several varieties of quinoa (Сhenopodium quinoa) Q3 , Q4 , Q5 under the toxic effect of Со2+ on photosystem II (PS II) was carried out. The studies were carried out in vivo on leaves of wheat germs (Triticum aestivum) by introducing metal ions and quinoa (E) extracts. The character of changes in induction transitions msec of delayed fluorescence of chlorophyll а (DF Chl a) under the action of Со2+ is reflected in the suppression of redoxreactions in the electron transport chain of PS II. The corrective effect of quinoa in relation to the action of Co is probably due to their phytochemical composition, which is rich in antioxidants, capable of neutralizing superoxide anion radicals formed under stress, thereby reducing the toxic effect of the metal.
