Analysis of Phlomis L. and alliet genera found in the flora of Azerbaijan based on the herbarium materials of BAK

Summary

Phlomis (Labiatae) was firstly described by K. Linney. Afterward, it was mainly divided into two genera as Eremostachys and Paraphlomis which comprised different infrageneric taxonomic groups. However, it had not been studied comprehensively on a global scale from Briquet’s classification till the 90s years of the XX century. The genus containing 100 species have been studied in morphological, palynological, molecular systematics, and phylogenetic levels recently. According to various research methods as well as the similarities between the species of Phlomis and Eremostachys, these two genera require the need for modern revision. Therefore, the information about the Phlomis and related genera in our country have already been analyzed for the modern classification and nomenclature changes in accordance with the current tendency of the world plant taxonomy. The history of the genus, its geographical distribution, and also the taxa found in Azerbaijan and the adjacent countries were compared. In addition, the data of the herbarium specimens that are stored in the BAK was analyzed as well. 9 species are found in the Azerbaijan flora. The genus Eremostachys contains three species, but six species are included in the genus of Phlomis. Moreover, almost 240 herbarium specimens of both genera are stored in the BAK. According to the results of the research conducted so far, infra- and intergeneric changes in the nomenclature require the analysis of the species distributed in Azerbaijan with integrative approaches.
