Summary
The article presents information about the new distribution area, bioecology, phytocenology, beneficial properties and protection measures of the Crocus adamii (Iridaceae) species, discovered as a result of research conducted in the territory of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (2019- 2022). Of 75 species of the genus Crocus L. distributed in Europe, the Mediterranean countries, Central and East Asia, 12 species occur in Caucasus, six species in Azerbaijan. Four species grow on the territory of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, one of which is cultivated. No special measures are taken for its protection. To reduce anthropogenic impact, it is important to organize individual protection in the areas of distribution, and search new distribution areas. Populations in the areas of distribution of Crocus adamii are very small. In addition, the number of individuals in the discovered populations is very small. In this regard, it has been included in the newly published "Red Book" of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2023) as a rare species (VU B1ab (i,iii)).
